Robert Kilvert Artist
His two major interests were Collage and Watercolour.
Watercolour direct from observation using his great knowledge of
pigments and the physics and chemistry of the medium and Collage using a strong theme and colour suppliments to express ideas often with unexpected and exciting results.
Born 1929 at Chertsey, Surrey. Trained in London studios and after service in the RAF, began a long and varied career in art which included illustration and commissions for advertising, for the press and for exhibition design. From 1951 to 1962 he was employed as a designer for Beaverbrook Newspapers Ltd. and in 1962 he opened his own Design Studio in London. He was elected a Member and subsequently a Fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers.
Throughout this time he was painting and exhibiting, and in 1979 was invited to teach at the St. Ives School of Painting. It was during his period at St. Ives that he developed an interest in Collage, production portraits, landscapes, still lifes and life studies, without paint or added drawing. He has written several articles and has run workshops and courses on his method of working in collage and is in demand as a speaker on the subject at Art Society meetings.
In 1982 he left St. Ives to settle in the mediaeval village of Weobley in Herefordshire where he runs specialised painting courses, particularly in watercolour. His groups include amateur and professional painters from all parts of the world and teachers of art from schools and colleges.
His paintings are exhibited in London and regionally and can be found in may private collections in this country and abroad.
